HAIL: In the latest twist to a high-profile marriage in this central Saudi city, a 64-year-old man has announced that he would wait five years to consummate his marriage with his 10-year-old bride.

According to local newspapers yesterday, the man — who has already paid a SR100,000 dowry to the father of the girl and signed the marriage contract — now says he would wait until the girl is 15 to complete the marriage.

Explaining the circumstances that led to the marriage, the man’s son said his father never had a second wife. He said the girl’s father taunted his father saying he was willing to marry his daughter to him if he paid SR100,000 in dowry. “My father accepted the challenge, paid the money and became the husband of the young woman,” the son was quoted as saying.

Following reports of child marriages in the local media, religious scholars and human rights activists in the Kingdom have demanded legislation to set a statutory minimum age for marriage.

According to the Shariah, maturity is associated with puberty, which could start at the age of nine for girls and at the age of 11 for boys.

 Pakistani born father, if that’s what you want to call him, Chaudhry Rashad,  is charged with murder of his daughter who wanted out of an arranged marriage.  His daughter, Sandela Kanwal, 25, lived with her parents while her husband resided in Chicago.  

Her and her father hadn’t gotten into an argument because she hadn’t seen her husband for so long.  She told him she was unhappy and Rashid would not accept that fact and proceed to strangle her.  I can tell just by looking at Rashid that he doesn’t have remorse, regret and sorrow for what he allegedly did to his daughter, but instead I see rage!  Maybe he has rage because he is arrested for this act. Maybe he is thinking, “If I lived in Pakistan I wouldn’t be sitting in this jail cell!” 

The liberals will call this domestic violence, but this is an islamic domestic violence.  Will he get a lighter sentence because this is a cultural thing–to kill your “out of control” daughter, we live under shari’ah law and that law is supreme!

Recently, news articles came out regarding yet another murder hungry man who killed his daughter in a most brutal and barbaric fashion because she had the audacity to fall in love.

It was the act of barbarity that caused our friends at Muslims Against Shari’ah to start the STOP HONORCIDE! CAMPAIGN. Please stand up for the humanity of women who live under this Islamic doctrine of dis “honor” killings! All crime is hate crime. There is nothing honorable about extinguishing life because the killer is allowed under his “religion”!

Ask your legislators to toughen the criminal laws regarding murder to add “honor” killings in their domestic violence laws and in the definitions of murder. Religion is NEVER a reason to take the life of another!

This Islamist belief system needs to be changed from within!

JEDDAH, 3 March 2008Early morning shoppers at a supermarket in Jeddah were left reeling yesterday, with some falling unconscious, after a well-built Syrian man clinched a knife and decapitated his 15-month-old nephew in front of his mother in the store’s fruit and vegetable section.

In a brutal murder that has shocked the city, the 25-year-old man beheaded the boy, who was out shopping with his mother — in full glare of shoppers and staff at Al-Marhaba supermarket on Sari Street around 9.30 a.m. The man, who is the boy’s maternal uncle, apparently killed the boy following a dispute with his sister and brother-in-law.

Eyewitnesses said that the man picked up a knife from inside the store and severed the boy’s head. The mother and a shopper standing close by fainted, while several other stood in shock and disbelief over what had happened.
