Book meme–Part Three

Tags: ,

Tag!  You’re it!    My fellow bloggist over at The Renaissance Biologist tagged me,  so here are the instructions:

1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.

This is my book:

“There was an enormous bipartisan consensus that the Depression required dictatorial and fascistic policies to defeat it. Walter Lipmann, serving as an ambassador for America’s liberal elite, told FDR in a private meeting at Warm Springs, ‘The situation is critical, Franklin. You may have no alternative but to assume dictatorial powers.’”

This is from the must read book Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg.  It’s interesting that those on the Modern Progressive side of politics claim they possess the honesty, purity, and all good intentions–because they have our best interests in their heart doncha know– seem to deny the dictatorial political practice of their favorite King, umm,  I mean president.  The president who actually further destroyed what ever constitutional government we still had left which we are suffering under to this very day!   And they call us fascists!

Now for the tags:  Please post your results in the comments section so we can see this interesting experiment evolve.   If you deem a meme post too frivolous for your blog, well, get over it!  It’s fun!

Tag you’re it!   D=S   in2thefray  Pro Patria    Whateversowhat   Dinah Lord   Chen Zen   Act Seattle! for America and The Renaissance Biologist

Now if you weren’t tagged and want to play,  please feel free to add your book comments,  too!  Thanks and looking forward to reading your quotes and who you are going to tag next!

“But Goldwater was neither mean spirited nor racist. Indeed, his greatest threat to the prevailing liberalism of his time was his capacity, through sensible argument and honest conviction, to escort conservatism in from the fringe and make it acceptable to mainstream America. Goldwater’s conservatism was always anchored in principle and idealism.”

The book I have in arms reach has this quote:

“More persecutions in 923 saw additional churches destroyed, and in 937, Muslims went on a Palm Sunday rampage in Jerusalem, plundering and destroying the Church of Calvary and the Church of the Resurrection.”

This is retrieved from The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) under the topic: PC Myth: The Crusades were an unprovoked attack by Europe against the Islamic world!

Interesting, in light of Mr. Sphinx’ take on ancient world history!

The list of items forbidden by the TSA changes daily; it is a testament to the ad hoc and often mystifying nature of the program. At the time of this writing, gel-filled bras and fluids with medical uses (including, specifically, K-Y Jelly) are exempt from the three-ounce limit imposed on most fluids at the security gates. The TSA’s lists go into bizarre detail, permitting sabers and meat cleavers, for example, in checked luggage, but prohibiting water.

Hey, no fair! :D You tagged me back…thought that was one of the prohibited things in the game of tag. Oh well. The closest book to me is “Intervention and Reflection: Basic Issues in Medical Ethics,” 8th ed. by Ronald Munson. The quote:

“Thus, unless women agree to be tested or ask for help with drug rehabilitation, states have little power to intervene for the purpose of protecting the developing fetus. Whether the state should have such power continues to be a matter of debate. Further, the questions we raised earlier about whether and to what extent a pregnant woman has responsibility for the developing child remains unanswered.”

Whew! Y’all oughta be running for Pre-si-dent with all yur book larnin’. ;)

LOL! That’s funny Hannah! A scientist with humor!

How do people know that you’re a Christian? Well, you can tell them, of course. And make no mistake about it; talking about your faith in God is a very good thing to do. (from 365 Daily Devotionals for Kids).

Aaarh! I’ve been out of town, ThoughtRogue. Hope I’m not too late to the meme party!

    Here’s mine.

“The city had awakened to find the papers plastered with photos of an angry Iranian president and serial shots of Iran’s destroyed nuclear facility. Every TV and radio channel was buzzing with the story, Iran was blaming the United States and Israel.”

Flynn, V. 2007. “Protect and Defend.” Atria Books. p.123

A great read if you’re in the mood to kick some Islamowackjob butt. And who isn’t?

Aackk! I’ve been out of town No Compromises. Hope I’m not too late to the meme party!

    Here’s mine:

“The city had awakened to find the papers plastered with photos of an angry Iranian president and aerial shots of Iran’s destroyed nuclear facility. Every TV and radio channel was buzzing with the story. Iran was blaming the United States and Israel.”

Makes you want to read more, doesn’t it? It’s a great read when you are in the mood to kick some Islamofascist (Iranian style) butt. And who isn’t?

From Vince Flynn’s novel “Protect and Defend”, featuring my hero, Mitch Rapp.
