The running theme at the Evergreen Leadership Conference last weekend was forming coalitions, Ronald Reagan style, with his 80/20 Rule which means if they agree with you on 80% of the issues then befriend them, work with them. However, Mary emailed me to let me know that Rudy G. is attributing to Reagan what Reagan DID NOT SAY! Here’s her comments:

“I did want to follow up with you on the ‘My 80-percent friend is not my 20-percent enemy’ quote that the conference organizers used encourage the attendees to rally around one of the less-than-perfect GOP nominees. In doing some Googling around I discovered that this is a Giuliani talking point that is being attributed to Reagan. The problem is that Reagan apparently never said anything even resembling this. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/column.aspx?UrlTitle=advice_to_the_reagan_lorn&ns=CraigShirley&dt=05/03/2007&page=full&comments=true

Even if Reagan did say something like that it would more appropriately apply to a legislative strategy rather than an electoral/coalition building strategy” (Thanks Mary).

Even so it’s amazing how much impact Ronald Reagan had on this Country and how we are still looking at him as the Standard Bearer for what’s right for Republican politics.

About 100 attendees got together and compiled an important list of policies and priorities that were important to Washington state Conservatives.

Among the list was making the Bush tax cuts permanent, securing the borders, victory in Iraq, defined as a stable, self-sustaining, self-ruling government, and a candidate who puts family first. The president needs to be loyal, have integrity, and practice fidelity. I guess that leaves Rudy out!

After reviewing this database the candidate list was trickling down to the two-tiered candidates. Even Mitt Romney failed the test because of his apparent flip-flopping on traditional conservative issues.

(We were only given five stickers to put on each policy in each topic.)

The perfect presidential candidate is a fiercely, loyal Pro-American, who is a protector of our borders, and it’s Citizens from foreign and domestic enemies vetoing ALL tax increases and Hillary-care, and kicking the UN’s butt right out of New York while standing up to the Izlambo-fascists and letting them know in no uncertain terms that America supports Israel and when we catch you you will die, or visit Gitmo for a very long vacation.

HE, yes, I said HE, has one marriage and no extra marital trysts, and his kids respect him. He protects the innocent from conception to death and thinks monkeying around with fertilized eggs to experiment on humunkiraffes is insane and that messes with God’s right to His Creation.

This Presidential candidate says it like it is, and doesn’t care about possible political backlash while he carries a concealed hand gun, encourages you to do the same, and conducts interviews while he’s hunting and fishing and listening to sports on his radio!

He knows you know what’s best for your own kids and family and protects your right to educate them as you see fit and makes sure you have as much of the fruit of your labour as possible. He trusts the American people to think for themselves, and is comfortable in his own skin. He bombs the snout out of Osama and Iranian & Korean bomb factories, and reminds Fiedel he won’t be with us very much longer and if he wants to leave a positive legacy for Cooba he’ll let freedom ring!

He knows he won’t make everyone happy and that’s okay because what’s most important to this President is protecting Americans from those who want to kill them. He lays his head down at night with a clear conscience, and wakes up and serves his Country with a smile on his face and a joke or two.

In a nutshell, that’s the perfect American President. From looking at the three media darlings it ain’t happening’. Even Newt got the boot! Special interests and personal power and treating people with disrespect is their core belief system and if we elect one of them we will get more of the same.

It’s time to raise our standards and expect a higher quality person for this Office.

If the GOP Nominee is for Open Borders and Amnesty, women’s right to slaughter the innocent for their personal freedom and gain, and don’t care if you have 2nd amendment rights then I’m not voting in the General Election and I would encourage you to do the same.

If Reagan were alive today would he kick some RINO butt?
